Nothing like a FB memory like this: leading the race overall men and women I make a rookie mistake and crash my bike. Getting back on I regain the lead until the run turn around where the course volunteers insist I have to run to the next checkpoint. They weren't expecting a girl to be leading my race distance, I listened to them and ended up running an extra 400 meters, get overtaken by two men and finish with 3rd overall and my very first overall women's win!
I wanted to quit but I knew nothing was broken or seriously injured. In fact, the first thing that went through my head like any bike lover was "Oh good, my bike is okay." The second thought was "You do come unclipped in cleats...that's awesome." I kept telling myself just a little further, just a little further and let's see what happens. The fun part was my coach and best friend won the other distance that was being raced and 10 of my athletes had podium finishes. What a great weekend...even if I had to drive myself home covered in road rash.
